Are You Losing Out on Search Traffic?

If you’re not aware of mobile website design or responsive website design then it may be that you are not familiar with Google’s new policy to promote sites with mobile / responsive optimisation in their mobile search results. That’s right. We’ll get into what that means to you in a second, but first let’s hear it from the horse’s lips.

On April 21, 2015 Google announced the new update to their mobile search algorithm by saying:

“Today’s the day we begin globally rolling out our mobile-friendly update. We’re boosting the ranking of mobile-friendly pages on mobile search results. Now searchers can more easily find high-quality and relevant results where text is readable without tapping or zooming, tap targets are spaced appropriately, and the page avoids unplayable content or horizontal scrolling.”

What This Means to You

According to Google’s announcement, “If your site’s pages aren’t mobile-friendly, there may be a significant decrease in mobile traffic from Google Search. But have no fear, once your site becomes mobile-friendly, we will automatically re-process (i.e., crawl and index) your pages.”

In plain English, this means that if you do not have a mobile or a responsive website, you are certainly missing out on search traffic, because the majority of smart phone users search the internet now through their phones. If your site is not optimised for mobile devices either through a separate mobile-friendly site or a single responsive website, then your search listing will be pushed down on the results when people search for your products or services on their mobile devices.

However, like they mentioned, once you do upgrade your site your rankings will improve. If you haven’t gotten on board the mobile revolution yet, then now may be a good time to get in touch with a mobile website design company. At RWC, we create responsive websites that cater to mobiles, tablets and desktops. This is a preferred method as users will not be redirected to another mobile friendly site, but can instead to continue to browse the same site with a different layout.

Why You Need a Responsive Website

Come April 21, businesses that fail to upgrade to mobile and tablet optimised standards are set to lose out on their hard-earned Google SEO rankings and the resultant business it generates. The world is going mobile. That’s why you need a responsive website today.

Google’s stated goal is to improve searcher experience. It’s frustrating to search on a phone and land on a page that’s so tiny you can’t accurately click the links without pinching and zooming and scrolling to find the right text or links. Google is converting that frustration into an improvement in its search results, so that more mobile searchers will land on sites with positive mobile experiences. It makes sense from the searcher’s perspective, which is what matters to Google.

How many of your competitors will be boosted by the mobile-friendly update? How many will be demoted? Can you capitalize on their loss? Is this an opportunity to surpass the competition? Keep in mind, receiving few visits and sales via mobile search today does not in any way indicate the true size of the opportunity.

Go Responsive Now

Having a business website is great, as you can connect with millions of users from all over the globe that need your product or service. On the other hand, having your business online also requires you to have a great website design and stay in trend with the latest technological advancements.

But what is this technique about? In a few words, responsive website design is a technique that allows your website to look the same even if you browse it on your Tablet, Mac, Smartphone or Windows PC. This technique removes the need for dedicated mobile websites and tablet websites, instead it focuses on the creation of a unitary website that looks, works and provides the same feeling on any platform it’s accessed on.

From a business standpoint, having a Responsive Website can really enhance the user experience, allow the user to access the website on one of the multiple platforms available, while also informing the user about your latest products or services you are offering. As a business, you’ll need technology to allow users from anywhere in the world to view your website, and while you can’t control the device from which people will access your websites, you can still make sure that they’ll get the same, amazing experience.

In addition, responsive website design can also help you save time and money. It might take a little more than a normal website but once it’s done, you can access it from anywhere in the world with any device (mobile, tablets, laptops, computers, televisions). On the other hand, creating a desktop website and then duplicating it as a mobile website not only takes more time than creating a responsive website, but the costs are also not justified.

Why do people want to access your website on mobile devices? It’s just much more convenient, as you don’t have to carry your laptop with you, instead your mobile phone or tablet can easily help you visit the website you want without any problem. This is why the number of mobile users accessing various websites has increased tremendously, especially in the last 2 years.

Mobile devices are now a mainstream product in each country they are marketed in, with low prices and amazing features that enable users to get the best experience while on the go. As data speeds, increase, users become more and more adventurous in their use of the internet from mobile devices to the point that many rely solely on these mobile devices for all their personal computing requirements.

As a result, users are now demanding the best experience on the go and business that are unable to provide this experience are experiencing the loss of web traffic, mobile views and the resultant business they bring.

Responsive Website Company, is an Indian business that has expanded as a global enterprise and handles the creation of responsive websites for clients all over the globe.

In summary, responsive website design is not just the way of the future, it is a standard protocol for today. With more and more Internet connected devices appearing each year, your business website needs to offer the same user experience across platforms.

What is a Mobile Website?

A mobile website is a website that is designed specifically for mobile phone and tablet users. If you ever accessed web pages from a smart phone or a tablet, you may have noticed that some websites are difficult to navigate, visually unappealing and take a ridiculous amount of time to load on your device. On your desktop or laptop computer they work just fine. This is because the sites have not been optimised for mobile viewing.

55% of the world’s 6 billion mobile phone owners have smart phones and 45% of those smart phone owners say they use their phone over a laptop or a desktop computer when searching for products and services.

What Does this Mean for You as a Business Owner with a Website?

It means that if your website does not also have a mobile optimised version, you could be losing business to your competitors who have sites that are more easily navigable for mobile phone users. A mobile website can be created from your existing website or you could even have a brand new website designed for you that also includes a mobile optimised version. With so many people using smart phones these days, it has become necessary for the success of your business to have a website that is mobile optimised.
